Now that all the pictures from the Cannes Film Festivity have been filed, we can finally round up the definitive list of best-dressed women at the festivity. Unlike say the Oscars or the Golden Globes where an occasional actress has one opportunity to make herself a method star or raise herself to iconic size via the red carpet, Cannes affords several fashion parades. There is the opening night gala that needs short cocktail dresses cheap of the grandest variety, the movie photo call with its beverage dress attire, and the movie elite night which traditionally suggests a formal frock.
Natalie Portman had four changes at Cannes including a sheer short number from Rodarte which revealed her under outfits. But it was her Dior Couture dress with a black bandeau-like top and tea-length skirt that earned her a spot on my list. Is very important of the dress is very much commensurate with the new skirt length which will be very popular next season. Also in Dior were Charlize Theron in a buttercup yellow structured column dress with a train of chiffon and fellow Dior face Marion Cotillard who went against convention by wearing a bead encrusted mini dress to her movie elite.
Cate Blanchett put a modernist, galaxy spin on the princess ball gown with her printed man made fibre and gazar dress with an elaborate bustle on the back. The voluminous frock in shades of blue, dreary, black and silver was the main fall 2015 bunch of British designer Giles Deacon. Because of her contract with Giorgio Armani, many expected Blanchett to wear an Armani Prive dress.
But it was Julianne Moore who amazed in Armani Prive with a feathery ensemble that announced that she is true superstar. Naomi T also used a feathery creation. Her Elie Saab dress featured a skirt completely covered in feathers but the pockets took the glamour quotient down a step to a refreshing effect.
Emma Stone used a beverage dress with a fog up of a skirt from Oscar de la Renta. Diane Kruger was in a silvery dreary dress with a smattering of beadwork and a dramatic train. Sienna Callier used a dreary container dress with a swooshy tulle and chiffon skirt from Gucci at the closing ceremony.
But no one did Gucci justice better than Lupita Nyong’o who in her green plisse chiffon number — that allowed her to twirl and spin — made her the very definition of “grand entrance. ”.
